I’m Hattie Crisell, a writer based in London. My book, In Writing: Conversations on Inspiration, Perspiration and Creative Desperation, was published by Granta Books in 2024. I produce the podcast In Writing with Hattie Crisell, interviewing writers of all kinds in their studies.
I’m a contributing editor of Grazia magazine. I have also written for Bustle, Elle, Vogue, You, The Times, The Telegraph, The Evening Standard and The Sunday Times Style, among others. You’ll find some of my published journalism on this website.
I often chair live events and, at bookshops and festivals, I’ve interviewed authors including Wendy Erskine, John Lanchester, Rachel Parris, Patrick Grant, Mary Portas, David Nicholls, Katy Hessel, Geoff Dyer and Emma Jane Unsworth. I have taught sold-out workshops on interviewing and other topics through Arvon, the Edinburgh Book Festival and the National Centre for Writing. I have also appeared on BBC Radio 4’s Front Row and Woman’s Hour.
